Skoda Fabia Greenline II

  • Economy driving world champion Gerhard Plattner drives a Fabia GreenLine II from Austria to Denmark and back on just one tank of fuel
  • Average fuel consumption of 127.8 mpg
MLADÁ BOLESLAV, Czech Republic : May 13, 2011 – Austrian economy driving specialist Gerhard Plattner has achieved 1,246 miles (2,006 km) on a single 45 litre tank of fuel in a Škoda Fabia GreenLine. Starting in Reutte, Austria, Plattner drove to Bov, Denmark and back to achieve this impressive feat. The result of his effort is a record-low consumption achieved by the Fabia GreenLine – 127.8 mpg, although the model's official consumption figure is 83.1 mpg (combined). The Austria-based economy driving world champion used Germany's longest motorway, the A7, for his trip from Austria to Denmark and back.

Dr. Eckhard Scholz, head of technical development forŠkoda Auto, said: “We work hard to reduce the fuel consumption in our vehicles. The primary goal of these efforts is to offer efficient technology in all of our models at affordable prices, and our second-generation GreenLine models meet this requirement perfectly. The Fabia GreenLine is going to show what can be achieved by combining refined technology with economy driving.”

The trip was supervised by the International Police Motor Corporation (IPMC) who also sealed the fuel tank before Plattner set out from Reutte.

Gerhard Plattner, said: “The Škoda GreenLine models are perfect for fuel-efficient driving. In light of the current fuel prices, not only is that important for one’s own wallet, but also for lowering environmental pollution. With a fuel consumption well below the specified norm, I want to show that besides the car manufacturers, every driver can contribute to further reduce this environmental pollution. It already starts with small details such as the proper tyre pressure."

Škoda's famous winged arrow celebrates its 85th birthday

  • The luxurious SKODA Hispano Suiza was the first car to display the winged arrow logo
  • The very first vehicle was delivered to Czechoslovak president Toma's( Masaryk on May 10th, 1926
  • The winged arrow is now one of the most recognised logos in the motor industry
Mlada' Boleslav : May 10, 2011 - Exactly 85 years ago today, the first Škoda to wear the famous winged arrow logo rolled off the assembly line in Mladá Boleslav and was delivered to the president of Czechoslovakia, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. During the three years of production (until 1929), only 100 units of the luxury sedan were built.

Škoda's famous winged arrow celebrates its 85th birthday

The industrial manufacturer from Pilsen had already bought the license to produce the luxurious vehicles from the Spanish company Hispano-Suiza in 1924 – one year prior to the merger with the automobile factory of Laurin & Klement.

Production of the vehicle commenced in the spring of 1925 and wasn’t completed until May of 1926. The design had been penned by the leading coachbuilders at the time, Messrs. Brožík & Jech, and later by Messrs. Laurin & Klement.

Every single Škoda Hispano Suiza 25/100 PS was custom-built to individual customer requirements, meaning no two cars were the same. Weighing 2,700 kilograms, the car was able to reach a top speed of 86 mph.

Prices started at £6,785 and were considerably higher than the prices of other vehicles available on the market. Depending on the equipment level, prices rose to £8,928. In comparison, the smaller Škoda 422 at the time cost £1,360, and the beautiful Škoda 860 £4,200.

The accompanying Škoda marketing literature at the time read: “The Škoda Hispano Suiza is a luxury car designed by a brilliant engineer who put his stamp on the smallest details and manufactured with the utmost care and with finest materials.”

Established in 1895 as Laurin & Klement, Škodastarted life as a bicycle manufacturer. In 1905, the company launched its first car, the Voiturette A.

MILTON KEYNES, UK : January 21, 2010 - The Škoda Octavia family hatchback and estate range is now even more attractive thanks to the addition of two new engines. 2009 Skoda Octavia Estate - facelift

The state-of-the-art 1.2 TSI 105bhp is now available with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG gearboxes, in either hatchback or estate bodystyles and in S and SE trim levels. This engine first saw service in the recently introduced Yeti crossover, where it instantly impressed with its punchy performance and frugality thanks to its combination of a small-capacity petrol engine with turbocharging and direct injection technology.

It's a similar story in the Octavia, where the 1.2 TSI hatch combines low CO2 emissions of 134g/km* with a 0-62mph time of just 10.8** seconds; exceptional for its capacity of 1,197cc. Fuel economy is similarly impressive, with a combined figure of 49.6mpg***. This new engine is available with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG transmissions.

Meanwhile the recently introduced, latest-generation 1.6 TDI CR 105bhp diesel is now also available with 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox, combining smooth, effortless performance with CO2 emissions of just 123g/km. The 1.6 TDI CR 105bhp DSG is available with the same bodystyle and trim combinations as the 1.2 TSI as well as in Elegance guise.

These new additions to the Octavia range continue to improve an already multi-award-winning formula of practicality, comfort, value for money and low running costs.

* Octavia Estate 1.2 TSI 105bhp has CO2 emissions of 136g/km
** Octavia Estate 1.2 TSI 105bhp 0-62mph figure is 10.9 seconds
*** Octavia Estate 1.2 TSI 105bhp combined mpg is 48.7

2010 Skoda Superb Combi 3.6 V6 4x4

  • Fourth-generation Haldex clutch
  • Available with 1.8 TSI, 2.0 TDI CR 170 & 3.6 V6
  • Prices from £22,420

MILTON KEYNES, UK : January 20, 2010 - With its fourth-generation Haldex clutch four-wheel drive, the new Škoda Superb Estate 4x4 offers award winning comfort and safety, whatever the weather.

2010 Skoda Superb Combi 3.6 V6 4x4 - 2.0 TDI 4x4

Available with 1.8 TSI 160bhp and 3.6 V6 260bhp petrol engines as well as the 2.0 TDI CR 170bhp diesel, the Superb Estate 4x4 can tackle the sort of slippery conditions that would leave its two-wheel drive competitors stranded. The system transfers torque to whichever wheels have the most traction by taking signals from the ABS sensors, greatly increasing driving safety in the type of snowy and icy conditions that have gripped the UK this winter.

But the Superb Estate 4x4's capabilities aren't limited to wintery conditions. In the summer months the 4x4 technology will ensure that pulling trailers and caravans is easier, safer and more enjoyable than ever. And because drive to the rear wheels is disengaged when not needed, there's little adverse effect on fuel consumption.

The Superb Estate is already the holder of Top Gear Magazine's 'Luxury Car of the Year' Award, despite not going on sale until 26th February 2010, and the availability of four-wheel drive only adds to its broad appeal. Prices start at £22,420 for the Superb Estate 1.8 TSI 160bhp 4x4 SE.

With the Octavia Estate 4x4, Octavia Scout, Yeti 4x4 and the Superb Hatch and Estate 4x4, Škoda offers a broad range of four-wheel drive models for all needs and conditions.
