2011 ABT Touareg

Those who want their car to have it all choose the Touareg. This car is not just a real off-roader, but also looks confident and superior on the road. All the more so if the SUV has been tuned by ABT Sportsline. The Bavarian company has also refined the latest version of this a special automobile without diluting its character. “More power wouldn’t hurt with a car as diverse as this, but it was important for us that the tuning suited the characteristics of the Touareg", explains Christian Abt. The General Manager, who is responsible for technical development at ABT, knows what buyers of a premium vehicle expect: “Since its launch in 2002 the Touareg has been a huge success for us. We have systematically worked on our interpretation of the SUV since then, whereby it is clear, in our opinion, that there should be special emphasis on sport.”

Because a 2.5 tonne car needs powerful engines, ABT Sportsline offers performance improvements that make the great car from Wolfsburg seem even more superior: more horsepower and more torque – the ABT Touareg is a mountaineer, a workaholic, an elegant glider, a fast touring car and an agile XXL sports car all in one: with the 3.0 TDI, ABT POWER provides 282 HP (207 kW) compared to the series standard 240 HP (177 kW). The ABT POWER S technology even makes 310 HP (228 kW) available, while the torque is increased from 550 Nm to 580 Nm or 610 Nm. For the silky-smooth V8 turbo diesel with its 4.2 litre cubic capacity, 385 HP or 283 kW (series standard: 340 HP / 250 kW) and a torque of 870 Nm (series standard: 800 Nm) are available.

The impression that the ABT Touareg is a formidably dominant automobile, which comes across as elegant and dominant, is further underlined by the designer wheels ABT BR and CR. Both alloys are available in different sizes up to a powerful 22 inch version. It goes without saying that ABT also offers combinations with high-performance tyres, where the performance and the load index agree. Both the BR and CR wheels underline the contours of the Touareg and harmonise with the bodywork elements, which ABT has developed for the premium SUV: the sporty front grill and rear wing blend well into the vehicle’s design and the incorporation of the rear apron and the 4-pipe exhaust unit show exactly where the classy Touareg comes from.

2010 BMW Z4 3.0i with G-Power SK Plus - Sporty Drive

Technology transfer by G-POWER -- the technology from the 800 hp world record-breaking G-POWER M5 HURRICANE RR is now also available for the BMW Z4 E85 and 3 Series E46, delivering a power increase of up to 55 hp.

G-POWER Z4 3.0i with SK Plus "Sporty Drive" supercharger system
  • 210 kW/286 hp @ 6,000 rpm (+ 55 hp/40 kW)
  • 345 Nm @ 3,500 rpm (+ 45 Nm)
  • 0-100 km/h: 5.4s
The G-POWER SK Plus supercharger system has proven its worth in more than 1000 vehicles, and now a redeveloped version of the technology featured in the world's fastest saloon car with a top speed of 372 km/h has found its way under the bonnet of the BMW Z4 E85 and the BMW 3 Series E46.

Following a 12-month development program, involving extensive CAD work complemented with virtual computational fluid dynamics analysis (CFD analysis) and intensive test driving, G-POWER presents the all-new, perfected SK Plus "Sporty Drive" supercharger system. All components have been developed from scratch or extensively revised based on our many years of experience. The resulting components are manufactured using state-of-the-art production processes. The supercharger mounting plate and the complete air ducting, for example, are made from lightweight cast aluminium. Plus, all parts of the SK Plus "Sporty Drive" system made from sheet metal are CNC laser cut from non-corroding materials. Due to our investment in sophisticated tooling and equipment, as well as our high-volume manufacturing setup, we are able to offer consistent quality at a considerably lower price.

Moreover, thanks to the complete redevelopment of the system, its overall part count has been reduced, further simplifying the installation of the SK Plus "Sporty Drive" system. An optimized storage facility means that the availability of the system has been improved, facilitating dispatch usually within 1-2 days after receipt of order.

Like its "big brother" the G-POWER M5 HURRICANE RR, the heart of the system is an OE-quality supercharger from renowned German manufacturer ASA Kompressor GmbH. The all-new ASA T3-313 replaces the previous ASA TM3 supercharger. Optimization of the geometry of the compressor and its housing, originally developed for the record-breaking vehicle, enable earlier and even more efficient build-up of boost pressure, thus ensuring outstanding pulling power in the middle of the rev range. At full revs, the G-POWER SK Plus supercharger system achieves an increase in output of up to 55 hp compared with the series-production version, at a relative boost pressure of only 0.3 bar. Fitted to the 3.0l engine in the BMW Z4 3.0i or the BMW E46 330i, maximum output climbs to ca. 210 kW/286 hp and 345 Nm of torque.

More important to the customer than the naked figures, however, is the power delivery -- i.e. the experience generated by this additional output. The key here is the term "Sporty Drive". In the specification for every tuning program undertaken by G-POWER, this aspect is afforded the same priority as the target power increase itself.

The very first thing you notice behind the wheel of a BMW Z4 E85 or a BMW 3 Series E46 with a G-POWER SK Plus supercharger system is the extremely sporty throttle response. Every input from the gas pedal is translated immediately into forward propulsion, without the lag usually associated even with modern turbocharged engines. The driver's command is proportionally and instantaneously implemented. One further characteristic of mechanical supercharging using the ASA radial supercharger is the outstanding torque in the middle of the rev range, which is particularly impressive during overtaking manoeuvres. This lively response from mid-range revs increases continuously until engine speed peaks, which is also where maximum boost pressure is achieved. The acceleration experience is akin to being fired from a catapult.

G-Power SK Plus - Sporty Drive Performance kit

In order to ensure that all this extra power is delivered safely to the road, G-POWER recommends a combination of the G-POWER 20-inch SILVERSTONE DIAMOND wheel set with Michelin tyres measuring 245/30 ZR 20 on the front and 285/25 ZR 20 on the rear and the G-POWER "GZ4-RS" coil-over suspension with 9-way adjustable compression and rebound. The outcome is higher cornering speeds and improved directional stability at top speed.

Always worthy of consideration is the G-POWER rear sport silencer. This hand-built silencer is made completely inside and out from stainless steel and combines an outstanding fit with OE quality. As fine as they may be, however, these qualities pale to insignificance with the first chords of the symphony flowing from the 4 x 76 mm tail pipes. With a powerful bass starting at low engine speed, turning up the heat as it rises through the middle and upper rev ranges, the G-POWER rear silencer skilfully underscores the significantly increased sporty character of any BMW tuned by G-POWER. This characteristic sound is made possible by G-POWER's patented "DEEPTONE" technology.

The last question is, of course, the critical one -- How much does it all cost? Entry into the world of G-POWER supercharger systems starts at EUR 2,500.00 (net) for the installation-ready SK Plus supercharger system. A TU"V certificate of conformity makes TU"V registration straightforward. If preferred, complete installation including TU"V inspection can also be carried out by G-POWER at its headquarters in Autenzell.

The History of the BBR Mazda MX-5 Turbo

In 1990, exactly twenty years ago, renowned tuner and BTCC entrant Brodie Brittain Racing (BBR) was approached by Japanese car importer Mazda UK to tender for a 150BHP Turbo kit to fit the new MX-5 sportscar. Initially, there was an expectation that production would run to around 200 units.

Naturally there was competition to win the tender from other UK tuners, but BBR commenced work on the most economic turbo layout for the MX-5. In addition the criteria from Mazda UK demanded that the MX-5 turbo kit was to be a dealer fitment, so it was vital that the key components were simple to install - ‘like Lego,’ recalls Dave Brodie.

After an intensive development process BBR had soon established an ideal turbocharger package and subsequently won the Mazda UK tender, which contained strict design briefs regarding power limitations. One of the biggest design issues in this process was controlling the on boost fuelling, as there was no facility for this in the original Mazda ECU. Rising to the challenge BBR developed its own piggy back ECU called Interceptor, which enabled BBR to manipulate the electronic map settings from the original Mazda ECU to optimise the engine’s fuelling and ignition parameters for the turbocharger set up.

The end result was a Mazda UK approved, dealer fit, turbocharger kit that increased the power on the MX-5’s B16P engine from 115 bhp to 150 bhp. Warmly received by the motoring press and public alike, the BBR MX-5 turbocharger kit swiftly gained a reputation for bulletproof reliability and over the next few years BBR sold more than 1200 examples of the turbo kit, without a single engine failure.

Ultimately, the BBR MX-5 turbo kit proved to be the most popular aftermarket turbo kit yet sold in Europe and arguably, the USA too. Fast forward twenty years and demand and interest in BBR enhanced Mazda MX-5’s is stronger than ever, so that’s why BBR has done it again…

Superchips optimises The Porsche Cayenne Diesel

|
Superchips Porsche Cayenne Diesel

BUCKINGHAM, UK : November 30, 2010 - Superchips Ltd, the world’s leader in high performance automotive electronic tuning, is delighted to unveil an ECU remap for the 2010 model Porsche Cayenne 3.0 diesel.

Responding to customer demand for increased low speed torque, Superchips engineers extensively analysed the Porsche’s Bosch EDC17 ECU, finding a number of areas where performance optimisation could occur on the Cayenne’s 2967cc V6 turbo diesel engine without compromising reliability or refinement.

Post installation, the Superchips ECU remap sharpens the Cayenne diesel’s powerplant, resulting in a smoother, more responsive, more exhilarating drive. Power is boosted by up to 47 bhp at 4044 rpm, while torque increases by an impressive 82 Nm (60 lb.ft.) Crucially, for a 2100 kilo SUV, the Superchips ECU remap improves the Cayenne Diesel’s performance from just 1800rpm, enabling swift, relaxed progress for fast road driving, overtaking, load hauling or off roading.

Pleasingly, the Porsche Caynenne’s much praised fuel economy is unaffected by the Superchips ECU remap and in most instances consumption improves due to the extra low rev torque available to the driver.

Installation of the Superchips ECU remap for Porsche Cayenne Diesel Sport models entails customers visiting one of approximately 80 Superchips performance centres, where trained technicians can undertake the remapping procedure.

2010 mtm Golf GTI

  • Up to 100 hp more and fantastic characteristics for the Golf GTI
  • 205 hp for the diesel Golf GTD
The sixth generation of Golf - optional with the 3 magic letters GTI or GTD - is like his predecessors an object of desire for the tuners. Either up to 310 hp(228 kW) for the GTI or 205 hp (151 kW) for the GTD, the VW and Audi refiner from Wettstetten offers for both cars different power and configuration stages, which improve significantly the characteristics and have a positive effect on the car.

The results: faster lap times, optimum value and lots of recommendations. And that not only in the MTM domains - best vehicle dynamics, thanks to a perfect complete package of power enhancement, exhaust system, suspensions and sport rims - but also for fuel consumption. In a comparative test, the MTM Golf GTD had a fuel consumption less than 8 litres per 100 km, which relegated its competitors to the fringe.

With the GTI for a new takeoff

The GTI drivers of the sixth generation will be spoiled with MTM products, which stand more for technique rather than optics. Four power enhancement stages, beginning with 270 hp (199 kW) through the optimization of the ECU and it even goes further. In its upper stage, MTM reaches more than 300 hp through the modification of the ECU, MTM turbocharger with exhaust manifold and complete 4 pipes exhaust system. The exact characteristics are 310 hp (228 kW) and a torque of 410 Nm, with a time of 1.16 min realized on the small track of Hockenheim, top speed of about 270 km/h and 5,7 seconds from 0 to 100.

MTM provides the new GTI with 19" sport rims in new BIMOTO 9-spoke-design which offer enough space for the MTM brake system with 380 mm discs. Last but not least, MTM advises the in-house suspension kit, which lowers the front about 30 mm.

For the ones who are only searching 'a little bit' more, they are in good hands at MTM. The 60 hp upgrade compared to the series car and also the 18" sport rims in the Bimoto Design - available since the beginning of 2010 - enable a first entry into MTM high quality tuning already available from 2.698 Euros incl. taxes.

2010 mtm Golf GTD

Mighty Diesel power. The Golf GTD by MTM.

With a power upgrade - through ECU modifications - of 205 hp (151 kW) and a torque of 380 Nm, the MTM Golf GTD is clearly ahead of the series GTD, with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h of 7,1 s instead of 7,8 s and a particularly higher flexibility.

For those who are looking for more than a power upgrade, it's also possible to revert to MTM's full range of tuning products. Starting with the well-known MTM exhaust system in 4-pipe-optic and 80 mm diameter, over MTM suspensions, MTM sport rims in the BIMOTO design and MTM brake system, the Golf GTD can perfectly provided with.

Nobody has to be afraid of the prices: 800 Euro (incl. taxes, excl. installation) for the power upgrade, 1.499 Euro for the 18" rim set and for the ones who pay an additional charge of 400 Euro even gets a 19" rim set.
