G-POWER M3 SK II

The high-speed test of "auto motor and sport" in Nardo in southern Italy is the ultimate challenge for all vehicle manufacturers. High temperatures and the fastest automobile race track in the world that knows only one load condition: full throttle. The 12.3 km-long route is basically a circle with a diameter of 4 km and an elevated roadway that is reminiscent of a steep curve. In practice, this results in an infinite straight line for miles of continuous full load driving, an operating condition that puts utmost load on the engine. Add uncomfortably high ambient temperatures and it simply doesn’t get any more challenging.

This abusive environment naturally separates automotive wheat from the chaff, because only those tuners who have carefully shepherded their design from development to production will survive the extreme loads in the "auto motor und sport" high-speed test in Nardo with no major engine damage. In addition, pushing the system to the top-speed limits in the real-world provides merciless feedback on the achieved performance improvements. Many tuners instead post performance numbers based solely on short-term dynomometer testing which are subject to many variables, and thus opens the door to abuse. It is certainly difficult to determine whether performance gains will hold up in the real world if such tests are the only ones performed.

G-POWER embraces the challenge with enthusiasm; this is the third time in 2011 that G-POWER has conducted a High Speed Test. It is an excellent chance to demonstrate the impressive, real-world performance of our supercharger systems and showcase the superior quality of G-POWER products.

Beginning with CAD development based on industry standards and on through prototyping and the selection of OEM-quality components, G-POWER continues its commitment to excellence through strenuous test drives and hot-country trials in the United Arab Emirates to ensure exceptionally high quality, reliability and durability. G-POWER is the only BMW tuner in the world to leverage the skills of our technology partner, AVL, during the development work. AVL technologies allow the combustion pressure in the combustion chamber to be determined precisely. Thanks to this equipment, the development engineers are able to develop software for the engine control unit that maintains the maximum combustion pressure of a BMW M3 supercharged with the G-POWER "Sporty Drive" supercharger system to a level comparable with the production engine. Thus, there is no evidence of overuse.

The ASA supercharger used in the system reflects the robustness and stability of BMW in every respect. ASA superchargers are used not only in the ALPINA B5S, B6S and B7, but also in the ALPINA B6 GT3. In the factory race cars ALPINA campaigned for racing in the "Green Hell" - the 24 hour race at the Nürburgring – ASA impressively demonstrated its reliability and quality over more than 3,500 km. The exclusive use of components of OEM quality is a fundamental part of the G-POWER philosophy and basis for the superior quality and durability of the G-POWER supercharger systems.

To demonstrate our impressive quality lead, G-POWER made the conscious decision to perform the high-speed tests on a vehicle using a standard production kit with no special modifications.

G-POWER drove the BMW M3 test vehicle on its own wheels from Bavarian Autenzell into the southern Italian Nardo well equipped with bestsellers from the G-POWER product line: G-POWER SILVERSTONE wheels with MICHELIN Pilot Super Sport road tires designed to handle the high-speed testing, G-POWER GM3 RS coilover suspension, and, last but not least, the G-POWER SK II „Sporty Drive“ supercharger system. Aerodynamic add-ons for front and rear completed the package of equipment used in Nardo.

Thus prepared, and after a 1,500 km journey with Christian Stöber, Vice President and Technical Director at G-POWER, at the helm of the "standard" M3 G-POWER SK II, the car achieved a top speed of exactly 333.29 km/h on Sunday, May 22nd. It is believed that with a taller gear, the vehicle could have topped 340 km/h. Thanks to a video recording, you can witness this moment „live“ (watch the video). Only two cars with 900hp and 1000hp were faster at this event.

The subsequently performed acceleration measurements confirmed the G-POWER M3 SK II has top marks here as well: For the standard sprint from 0-100 km/h and 0-200 km/h, values of 4.4 s* and 12.9 s* were observed.

For negative acceleration, G-POWER offers a high-performance brake system in the program. Powerful disc brakes with 396 mm diameter at the front axle and 380 mm at the rear axle in conjunction with 6-piston and 4-piston calipers allow decellerations beyond 1.0g. Of course, G-POWER customers are provided with the choice of rotor material: both steel brake discs and ceramic alternatives (which are about 50% lighter) are available.

After this eventful weekend, Mr. Stöber happily returned the G-POWER M3 SK II Autenzell by driving it back personally. He spent just over four days and just over 3,000 km behind the wheel of the 570hp M3 G-POWER SK II and commented that the experience was "one of my best business trips ever..."

2011 G-Power M3 GTS SK II “Sporty Drive”

Club sport events are enjoying increasing popularity across the world. These events have traditionally been dominated by Porsche vehicles. Then, in 2009, BMW decided to stop ignoring widespread customer demands for a base vehicle for use in club sport events and unveiled the Project M3 GTS. Delivery of the limited run of 150 units was scheduled for early 2010. However, it took until the end of 2010 for the first vehicles to reach customer hands, of which 3 found their way immediately into the G-POWER workshops.

Although the BMW M3 GTS differed from the base M3 in virtually all parameters relevant to motorsport – adjustable aerodynamic body components front and rear, 100 kg less weight, a modified suspension and brake setup – the power increase of 30 hp to 450 hp turned out to be somewhat reserved. This is particularly so, when you consider that the Porsche 911 GT3 RS with the same output has to move only 1,370 kg (DIN). Against this, the 1,530 kg (DIN) of the BMW M3 GTS seems almost flabby.

Luckily for all ambitious club sport drivers, G-POWER is the sole tuner in the world being able to resolve this shortcoming. With our more than 25-years experience in the BMW sector, we are the world’s number one address when it comes to supercharger systems for BMW vehicles in general and M models in particular.

The high-revving V8 power unit of the BMW M3 GTS has proven itself as the ideal starting point for the forced induction technology practiced by G-POWER with ASA superchargers. Because the engine with a 10% greater displacement of 4.4l has got even larger reserves that can be used for an additional output increase than the 4.0l standards M3 power unite, that has successfully managed full throttle test bench drives for more than 350 hour non-stop and therefore is rightly well-known for its durability.

A version of the renowned and globally proven G-POWER M3 “Sporty Drive” supercharger system, adapted specifically for the BMW M3 GTS raises the standard output from 450 hp to 635 hp and 630 Nm of torque. The ex works reinforced engine block of the BMW M3 GTS along with a forged crankshaft and reinforced con rods are the basis for this increase of the output maximum from 600 HP (standard M3) to 635 HP (M3 GTS).

Speaking of strength and durability it needs to be mentioned that the featured ASA superchargers can easily compete with the qualities of the engine basis coming from BMW. ASA superchargers are used not only in the ALPINA B5S, B6S and B7S models, but also in the ALPINA B6 GT3. In ALPINA’s works race car, the ASA supercharger has already provided impressive proof of its reliability and quality in competition over a distance of 3,500 km through the “Green Hell” – at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring. The exclusive application of OEM-quality components is a fundamental element of the G-POWER philosophy.

But it is not just the OEM-quality of the used components that ensures the exceptionally high quality, reliability and durability of the G-POWER products. A major contribution to it comes from our engineering process that meets to industry standards, starting with the CAD engineering, followed by the prototyping and ending with test drives on the Autobahn and in hot climate countries like Saudi Arabia.

A particular highlight of this engineering process is the use of the instrumentation of our technology partner AVL, by the way G-POWER being the only BMW tuner world wide to use this equipment. It measures the exact peak pressure that develops in the combustion chamber. With this information at hand the engineers were able to develop a custom-made software for the ECU, that keeps the peak pressure in the combustion chamber of a M3 power unite equipped with a G-POWER “Sporty Drive” supercharger system similar to the stock figures. So overstraining is not an issue.

More than 3000 sold G-POWER supercharger systems and the high customer satisfaction state that the huge effort made during our engineering process are worthwhile.

On the exhaust side, a lightweight, all-titanium exhaust system made by G-POWER delivers the necessary reduction in exhaust back pressure. The exhaust, developed specifically to suit the requirements of the SK II supercharger system, is equipped with 100 cpsi metal catalytic converters. The engine control unit software, which controls the setup for the V8, was also developed by G-POWER for the BMW M3 GTS.

In combination with the G-POWER SK II “Sporty Drive” supercharger system, this kind of high-revving V8 is nothing short of stunning. The “Sporty Drive” technology, developed by G-POWER for the G-POWER supercharger systems retains the unique performance characteristics of the M power unit. Compared with the series-production version, the addition of a G-POWER supercharger system delivers further improved response to even the tiniest movement of the gas pedal, plus absolutely no restrictions in its aggressive high revving under full load and progressive power delivery right up to the rev limiter. In addition to these features, the increased output of the V8 engine delivered by the G-POWER supercharger system also comes with a significant plus in mid-range torque. Especially when accelerating out of a slow corner, this feature of “Sporty Drive” technology will leave competitors to G-POWER M3 GTS drivers looking on in despair.

The performance figures, too, are designed to drive fear into the hearts of the competition. The G-POWER M3 GTS with 635 hp completes the standard sprints from 0-100 km/h and 0-200 km/h in 4.2s and 11.9s. Even more impressive: from 100 km/h to 200 km/h it takes the G-POWER M3 GTS 2.2s less than the standard M3 GTS. Top speed is 323 km/h. These figures have been clocked by a German car journal during their latest test of the G-POWER M3 GTS.

Further modifications to the series-production suspension and wheels of the BMW M3 GTS were not undertaken, as the standard M-GmbH setup already guarantees perfect balance and race-ready handling. It was only the shortage of power that was preventing faster lap times. With 635 hp, the hunt for lap time records is now on, like the car journal “sport auto” has proven with a new fastest lap for BMW M3s on the Hockenheim circuit. It took the G-POWER M3 GTS, equipped with MICHELIN standard street tires, just 1.11,8 min to complete the lap. But this lap time doesn’t show the huge potential of the G-POWER M3 GTS at all. Equipped with matching Cup tires and an adjusted suspension, one to two seconds faster laps are absolutely realistic.

The price for the 635 hp G-POWER SK II supercharger system for the BMW M3 GTS is EUR 23,500.000 (excl. tax) plus installation.

G-POWER M3 GTS with SK II “Sporty Drive” supercharger system
  • 635 hp / 467 kW @ 7,800 r/min (+ 185 hp / 136 kW)
  • 630 Nm 3,900 r/min (+ 190 Nm)
  • Top speed: 323 km/h
  • 0-100 km/h: 4.2s

2010 BMW Z4 3.0i with G-Power SK Plus - Sporty Drive

Technology transfer by G-POWER -- the technology from the 800 hp world record-breaking G-POWER M5 HURRICANE RR is now also available for the BMW Z4 E85 and 3 Series E46, delivering a power increase of up to 55 hp.

G-POWER Z4 3.0i with SK Plus "Sporty Drive" supercharger system
  • 210 kW/286 hp @ 6,000 rpm (+ 55 hp/40 kW)
  • 345 Nm @ 3,500 rpm (+ 45 Nm)
  • 0-100 km/h: 5.4s
The G-POWER SK Plus supercharger system has proven its worth in more than 1000 vehicles, and now a redeveloped version of the technology featured in the world's fastest saloon car with a top speed of 372 km/h has found its way under the bonnet of the BMW Z4 E85 and the BMW 3 Series E46.

Following a 12-month development program, involving extensive CAD work complemented with virtual computational fluid dynamics analysis (CFD analysis) and intensive test driving, G-POWER presents the all-new, perfected SK Plus "Sporty Drive" supercharger system. All components have been developed from scratch or extensively revised based on our many years of experience. The resulting components are manufactured using state-of-the-art production processes. The supercharger mounting plate and the complete air ducting, for example, are made from lightweight cast aluminium. Plus, all parts of the SK Plus "Sporty Drive" system made from sheet metal are CNC laser cut from non-corroding materials. Due to our investment in sophisticated tooling and equipment, as well as our high-volume manufacturing setup, we are able to offer consistent quality at a considerably lower price.

Moreover, thanks to the complete redevelopment of the system, its overall part count has been reduced, further simplifying the installation of the SK Plus "Sporty Drive" system. An optimized storage facility means that the availability of the system has been improved, facilitating dispatch usually within 1-2 days after receipt of order.

Like its "big brother" the G-POWER M5 HURRICANE RR, the heart of the system is an OE-quality supercharger from renowned German manufacturer ASA Kompressor GmbH. The all-new ASA T3-313 replaces the previous ASA TM3 supercharger. Optimization of the geometry of the compressor and its housing, originally developed for the record-breaking vehicle, enable earlier and even more efficient build-up of boost pressure, thus ensuring outstanding pulling power in the middle of the rev range. At full revs, the G-POWER SK Plus supercharger system achieves an increase in output of up to 55 hp compared with the series-production version, at a relative boost pressure of only 0.3 bar. Fitted to the 3.0l engine in the BMW Z4 3.0i or the BMW E46 330i, maximum output climbs to ca. 210 kW/286 hp and 345 Nm of torque.

More important to the customer than the naked figures, however, is the power delivery -- i.e. the experience generated by this additional output. The key here is the term "Sporty Drive". In the specification for every tuning program undertaken by G-POWER, this aspect is afforded the same priority as the target power increase itself.

The very first thing you notice behind the wheel of a BMW Z4 E85 or a BMW 3 Series E46 with a G-POWER SK Plus supercharger system is the extremely sporty throttle response. Every input from the gas pedal is translated immediately into forward propulsion, without the lag usually associated even with modern turbocharged engines. The driver's command is proportionally and instantaneously implemented. One further characteristic of mechanical supercharging using the ASA radial supercharger is the outstanding torque in the middle of the rev range, which is particularly impressive during overtaking manoeuvres. This lively response from mid-range revs increases continuously until engine speed peaks, which is also where maximum boost pressure is achieved. The acceleration experience is akin to being fired from a catapult.

G-Power SK Plus - Sporty Drive Performance kit

In order to ensure that all this extra power is delivered safely to the road, G-POWER recommends a combination of the G-POWER 20-inch SILVERSTONE DIAMOND wheel set with Michelin tyres measuring 245/30 ZR 20 on the front and 285/25 ZR 20 on the rear and the G-POWER "GZ4-RS" coil-over suspension with 9-way adjustable compression and rebound. The outcome is higher cornering speeds and improved directional stability at top speed.

Always worthy of consideration is the G-POWER rear sport silencer. This hand-built silencer is made completely inside and out from stainless steel and combines an outstanding fit with OE quality. As fine as they may be, however, these qualities pale to insignificance with the first chords of the symphony flowing from the 4 x 76 mm tail pipes. With a powerful bass starting at low engine speed, turning up the heat as it rises through the middle and upper rev ranges, the G-POWER rear silencer skilfully underscores the significantly increased sporty character of any BMW tuned by G-POWER. This characteristic sound is made possible by G-POWER's patented "DEEPTONE" technology.

The last question is, of course, the critical one -- How much does it all cost? Entry into the world of G-POWER supercharger systems starts at EUR 2,500.00 (net) for the installation-ready SK Plus supercharger system. A TU"V certificate of conformity makes TU"V registration straightforward. If preferred, complete installation including TU"V inspection can also be carried out by G-POWER at its headquarters in Autenzell.
